Which Street Food Tour?
A Mexico City street food tour is a walk, or a ride, between taquerias, food stalls and market counters with a local guide, and the food is paid for. The one in the calendar below, Sherpa Food Tours’ Mexico City: 8+ Dishes & Local Gems with Sherpa Food Tour, shows from $79 (checked November 2026), and that price buys its 2.5-hour Taco Tour in Roma Norte. The 3.5-hour 10+ Tastings & Local Gems option is $99 (checked November 2026). The cards below describe the Taco Tour unless they say otherwise.

How a Street Food Tour in Mexico City Works
What the tours actually are, what the Sherpa tour's two options buy, where the tours start, and when you do not need a guide at all.
What these tours actually are

The tours on this site do not stand at one cart on the pavement for three hours. They are taco walks, market walks and rides: a guide, a set route of taquerias, stalls and market counters, and the food and drinks included in the price. The guide orders, explains what is on the plate and where the dish comes from, and keeps the group moving. What you are buying is the choice of places and the explanation.
So the real choices are three. Where (Roma Norte and Condesa, or the Centro Historico and its markets), how (on foot, by bike, or in a minivan at night), and how much you want to eat beyond tacos.
The Sherpa tour, option by option
The tour in the calendar is sold as one listing with two options, and the from-price belongs to the shorter one:
| Option | How long | What it covers | Price per person |
|---|---|---|---|
| Taco Tour | 2.5 hours | Regional tacos such as cochinita pibil and birria, and modern tacos, finishing with mezcal and beer | From $79 (checked November 2026) |
| 10+ Tastings & Local Gems | 3.5 hours | A barbacoa taco recognised by the Michelin Guide with a local beer, regional and farm-to-table dishes, and a meal inside a historic manor house | $99 (checked November 2026) |
The Taco Tour was $79 on each date we read, 12, 13 and 24 November 2026; the longer option was $99 on 13 and 24 November and not on sale on 12 November. Both start at Colima 76 in Roma Norte, pass Plaza Luis Cabrera and the Pasaje Comercial El Parian, stop for a tasting at Tonala 171 and finish at Calle Queretaro 165. All food and drinks are included, and the guide speaks English and Spanish. Vegetarian, lactose-free and gluten-free menus are available if you say so when you book; there is no vegan menu, and the tour is not suitable for vegans. Tips are not included, and nor is getting to Colima 76.
On GetYourGuide the tour is rated 4.9 from 142 reviews. Sherpa sells the same two options on Viator as Local Foodie Adventure CDMX, rated 5.0 from 1,367 reviews (checked November 2026).
For a first afternoon or evening of tacos in Mexico City, with no plan and no Spanish, the Taco Tour is the simple choice: one neighbourhood, on foot, two and a half hours.
The Mexico City taco tour guide sets it beside the other taco walks in Condesa and round the Zocalo.
Where the tours go

Roma Norte and Condesa sit side by side west of the centre, and that is where the taco walks and the bike tours run. The Sherpa tour starts at Colima 76 in Roma Norte; Foodhood’s taco bike tour on Viator starts at the gate of Patio Condesa, Avenida Sonora 164, 1.7 km on foot from Colima 76. The Mercado de Medellin, at Campeche 101 in Roma, is a short way south.
The Centro Historico is the other base: the old-town walks, the markets round La Merced and the Mercado de San Juan at Ernesto Pugibet 21. Coyoacan, with its own market, is a separate trip south, about 12 km by road from the Mercado de San Juan.
Bikes, nights, vegan food
- By bike. Food Hood’s Street Food Bike Tour covers Condesa, Roma, a market and Chapultepec Park in 4.5 hours; El Taco Club and Foodhood sell shorter taco rides on Viator. See street food bike tours.
- At night. Sabores Mexico Food Tours runs a four-hour tacos-and-mezcal night with a minivan between stops, and two companies pair tacos with tickets to the lucha libre. See night street food tours.
- Vegan and vegetarian. Traveling Herbivore runs an all-you-can-eat vegan and vegetarian street food walk. See the vegan street food tour.
- Which one. The best Mexico City street food tour puts the tours side by side by the kind of traveller each suits.
When you do not need a guide
If you have a week in the city and some Spanish, you can eat at the same markets and taquerias for the price of the food. A Metro ticket is 5 pesos and a Metrobus trip 6 pesos (STC Metro and Metrobus, checked November 2026). The US CDC’s general advice to travellers is to avoid food from street vendors, and if you eat it anyway, to choose food that is steaming hot and drinks from sealed bottles or cans (CDC Travelers’ Health, reviewed January 2026). A tour does not change that advice. What a guide adds is the choice of where to eat and what to order, which matters most on a first day. Guided or self-guided has the markets, the fares and the habits.
